OK I have an XL1S and the computer firewire connection has died on it and I have a load of miniDVs tapes I want to transfer to my machine. BUT what is the best way to do this? My theory is that because the XL1S recorded onto the tapes I can use any miniDV compatible camera and hook it up to the computer. AND because its digital there will be no loss of quality using the cheap miniDV camera because its just playing back exactly whats on the tape?? correct?!?!

    Help!

So long as you shot normal speed (not LP) it should work. LP mode records narrower tracks that can be difficult to play on a different camcorder.
