    what exactly did you do?
    doesn't seem clear to me...

    dvd media type? cheap media?
not liked by the one player.

(dvdflick and favc are worth considering as alternatives to avi2dvd.

    xvid?
xvid in avi on dvd ? divx playback?
if it actually loads, one player may be particular about certain encoding settings

    decrypter?)

Are you burning Divx/Xvid files to disc or making a DVD out of them? If you're burning Divx/Xvid files as a data disc, then any of the following could be problems for playback on some DVD players:

    1) Resolutions greater than 720x576
    2) Use of QPel (Quarter Pixel)
    3) Use of GMC (Global Motion Compensation). Generally it's best to not use it at all, but some DVD players can play files with it if you only have 1 warp point. Xvid encoders usually use 3. No standalone DVD player to my knowledge will play it with 3 warp points.
    4) Use of packed bitstream.
    5) Video bitrates greater than 2000 Kbps.
    6) File sizes greater than 2 GB.
    7) Use of any audio other than constant bit rate MP3 may be a problem. And you may have to reduce the video bit rate a lot, like to 1200 Kpbs, if your audio is AC3 or DTS.
8.) Use of a custom encoding matrix may be a problem.

All of these problems except #4 require a re-encode to fix. #4 can be fixed with MPEG4Modifier. Players differ on what they will and won't play, so for example your JVC may accept packed bit stream and your Panasonic won't.
A program like GSpot can help you to identify whether your files have these things in them.

If you converted these files to DVD format and then burned them, then it might be a media issue and your Panasonic may not like the discs you used.

Okay, I've got to ask: which Panasonic DVD recorder? Does it definitely support playback of DivX/Xvid AVIs, or data discs in general?
