I got some rmvb files with Bit rate: 592 Kbps to convert to dvd.

I am using TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress for convertion with DVD5.

I would like to know whether I should remain the bit rate or increase it in order to get best quality and fully use the space of DVD5?

Can suggest how many files I should include inside one DVD5?

  2. Increase. 2 to 4 hours per single laer DVD -- depending on the frame size and quality of the source.

You should definitely use a higher bit rate to convert Real Media to DVD. Real Media is an awful codec - very lossy. You will need a high bit rate to make the conversion look as good as possible.

You have to be the judge of how many files to include and what bit rate to use. As a general rule I don't make DVDs with a bit rate below 4000 Kbps because I feel that the quality suffers too much. Such a bit rate will give your roughly 2 hours and 25 minutes of video on a DVD-5.

Each file is 44 min 10s. So I convert 2 files together? Each got 66700 frames.

  5. Does TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress support constant quality encoding like TMPGEnc Plus? If so, try encoding one of your episodes in constant quality mode (if it's like the older TMPGEnc try a quality of 80 or so) and see how big the file turns out. That will give you an idea how many episodes you can put on a DVD.

Based on a 90 minute total running time (which gives you a little head room) you can encode with 224 kbps audio and an average video bitrate of 6572 kbps. This will use most of the capacity available to you.
