avi to vcd

I'm getting rather frustrated with the software that is out there for converting avi to vcd. I haven't found one that lets you chose the size of the output. for example 1 cd.

Everything just converts it and it ends up being 1.5 cd's or something....

Maybe I'm just picking the wrong stuff but is there one out there that you can force it to be once cd?

Just as you can only fit 74 minutes of Audio on a CD
because a VCD has a fixed bitrate
at the bit rate of 1.100 (or whatever a vcd is exactly i ferget)
you get about 60minutes per cd of "program content".
this cannot be changed if its to be called a VCD

The VCD standard is 1150Kbps, but you can change that. It will be out of spec, but should work most times. But dcsos is correct. You are limited by the running time of the video, the CD size and the bitrate used. One option is to lay in a supply of 90 minute CDs to get a bit more on there. Or change over to DVD format.

A few tools to look into:

Eazy VCD

TMPGEnc encoder is free for MPEG-1 (VCD format) encoding.

DVD2SVCD I used this with SVCDs and you can burn a 700MB CD up to 830MB by using Mode 2. Never tried it with VCD formats, though.

Fit2Disc or the freeware FitCD may be handy for sizing a VCD.

Other members that use the VCD format more often may have better suggestions.

Buy a dvd burner if you dont have one and author all the encoded vcd to dvd,you can fit around 7 hours which is 7 vcd's.

Unless the resolution of your .avi file is around 320x240,
I do not see the point of converting it to a spec-compliant VCD.
