  1. Hi, after investing many times and hours to test I think here is the best way to convert any DVD to VCD or SVCD: Here the the procedure

    1) Used Smart Ripper (option)
    2) Used DVDX - To convert direct from a DVD drive or INO file to MPEG, option of language and Subtitle.
    3) Drag the mpeg file to your Nero tool to create a VCD!!!!!!!!

    DONE!!!

If you really want it simple, just step 2 and convert from you DVD drive. When done just drag the mpeg file to your Nero tool!

    Why I think the best?
It is simple step! One tool! No extensive disk space (Covert from DVD to mpeg). It let you select different language and different subtitle from your DVD.

  2. i find it simpler to use the 10+ step process i am already familiar with than to grapple with an all-in-one tool i've never used before. funny, but from my perspective i guess that makes my method the absolute best since it's simple for me

I have found that DVDx dont give much quality to talk about.
also i would not recomend converting direct from a DVD drive, its hard on the drive.
Well, I am the slime from your video.

  4. I too prefer my process with includes proper dolby downmixing and frequency resampling of the audio, and multiple encoding passes for the video, among other benefits.

@hailieu, just another "best way". The DVDx / Nero method might be newbie friendly, but do you seriously think, that is the best way?

  7. OK, I think it is the best way so far (as of today) is because it is simplicity (means user friendly, less my time as user, etc...). The quality is as good (subtitle, language...) (although I still have video and audio problem - see my other thread - still no answer )

I don't have to do Smart Ripper->DVD2AVI->TMPGEnc + if I want Subtitle and different language I have to use other tools that I never be able to get it work successfully event with the instructions for some reason. Even instructions here (VCDHELP) still doesn't work!

Just like DVD2SVCD! Keep it up developers!

I have a good friend who still using Word 4.1. I asked him why not upgrade to Word 6 since this version can do what you are doing and much easier. He told me that he used to all those CNTL + keys stroles in the old Word that he in love with it and did not want to try new version. I told him that the Window version he can use just one click and be able to substitude what he had to use 4 or 5 key strokes. He know that but still refuse to use the new version...

    Suggestion?...

  8. I am new in the DVD conversion, so try almost everything until I find a good method. Here are what I think:

    - to convert to VCD, the simple and easy way is DVDx, and the quality is
    not bad

    - to covert to SVCD, the simple and easy way is DVDx, but the quality is
not good, and it's also has some problem to use the premier plugin to
use an external encoder like tmpgenc or cce, it crash when it approch
to the end of the film at least on my PC; the dvd2svcd is a very nice
program, and it use cce to encode the video and toolmate to encode the
audio, but it's a little bit complicate to use it compare to DVDx and you
have to install a lot of program cause it's just a front end as I
understand. For me, after several conversion done by different method,
I prefer to use Xmpeg -> CCE for video and Toolmate for audio then let
the premier video server plugin do the rest (multiplexing and cutting).

    - I hope one day DVDx can do the better job on the (x)SVCD encoding
and support also the multipass on VBR.

    Cheer
