    Hi,

I am trying to make a backup of a DVD movie but nothing sees the DVD on my PC.

I tried DVD Dycriptors including Fab. I tried RitIt4me. I tried to play it on my PC with Nero Show Time and MPC but no device even sees the dick.

I also tried to open it with PGCEdit and with VirtualDub-MPEG2. No success.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

A commercial DVD or a burned one? Is this all using the same drive and does the disc work on other players or computers? Does the drive not recognize the disc as inserted?

It is burned one (it is a backup of a commercial DVD). It is the same drive. I actually have only one. It plays OK on my standalone Panasonic.

No, the drive, when I open "My Computer", shows nothing. Just blank. Thanks.

  4. You may have a registry issue, as described here:

Make sure you set a restore point first.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  6. Hello, Vertical,

Did you manage to solve your problem ?

I encountered the same with my desktop (computer) running WinXP Pro Sp2, and another desktop running WinXP Home Sp2. They are different brands of CD/DVD (Internal) Writers on each computer.

When I put in a DVD (blank or a commercial DVD Movie), the drive light (green) blinks for about 10 times, and then nothing happens. When I use Windows Exlporer to look for the DVD (not drive... the drive says it is a CD Rom), it is blank (as if no disk has been put on the drive). But I can play Music CD and VCD with both of them. I can play mpg and avi files (on my hard disk) with WinMediaPlayer 11.

Took the one with WinXP Pro Sp2 to a computer store to repair, they said it is a damaged registry... BUT, after re-installing Windows, etc. still the same problem...

I took the CD/DVD Drive out to another computer belonging to my friend (not mine with WinXP Home Sp2), the CD/DVD Drive works perfectly, can read DVD, can Write DVD (using the same version of Nero 6), can read CD, can write CD. Windows Explorer detected the CD and DVD on the drives almost instantly. So, it is nothing wrong with the CD/DVD Drive.

I hooked up my computers (one at a time) with an External CD/DVD Burner, CDs, DVDs work perfectly on both computers, can read and write CD, can read and write DVDs (using Nero).

I do not know what is wrong...

But I have lots of DVD/CD video editing, authoring, etc. software installed on both of my computers. All of them used to work fine, until recently.

What is your current situation ?

    Hi,

As you probably noticed, it was some time ago. I honestly do not remember what solution I've found. Really sorry that cannot help you.
