They were working fine about 2 days ago but suddenly when I play a video file (avi, mkv, flv, wmv, etc) the video opens in the player (I've always used windows media classic) but stays on 00:00 unless you move the bar. Its not paused either. no audio comes out, its just completely static.

I have all the right codecs and, im not sure if this is related, but I was converting a file with some free software after i made a animation on Avidemux and Movie Maker.

    Anyone know whats wrong?

There is a possiblity the original file is corrupt.

First thing to try is play it with vlc or mediaplayerclassichomecinema. They have internal codecs so that should help narrow that down. if they play them ok than you have a codec issue. If they don't it probably means the files are corrupted. If they are corrupted and won't play in any player you need to try to reacquire the files. Either rerip from the original source or go back to the original download site and reacquire a clean copy of the file.

Edit sorry didn't see you mentioned windows media classic initially. Try the home cinema edition and try vlc and go from there.

Ive uninstalled all the free software and it happens on both windows media player classic and windows media player but still no luck. The files are fine because they work on another computer.
