Ok, heres the deal, ive captured the 480p video from hulu.com with replay media capture. the only problem is that i can only play it with the built in applian flv player. nothing else will play it, and whats worse, i cant convert it with anything. Ive tried several different converters including xilisoft, total video converter, and even the applian converter. Any suggestions to why this would be? I dont have any problem viewing and vonverting the 360p video from hulu, but cant figure out why i cant do the same to 480p video. any help would be appreciated..

You might do a web search on this subject. I have a vague memory that some other guy a month or two ago was bitching here about not being able to convert Hulu video. I never heard of the site until his post and since such sites have very little interest for me, I have no personal experience with this video. Maybe it's got some kind of DRM wrapped around it to prevent exactly what you propose.

I dont think its DRM protected. I think it has to do with the video being h.264 or something. I dont have any problem with the lower rez one since its a standard flv i guess.

You might try installing the latest FFDShow, then telling SUPER to use DirectShow.

No luck. Im enclosing a jepg of the metadata from the file im trying to use. This is the only player that ive found will play these.

  8. If you've really downloaded the file and it's not copy protected install DirectShow h.264 and AAC decoders (ffdshow has these) and an FLV Splitter. Then you should be able to use AviSynth's DirectShowSource() and any compression program you want. You should also be able to play the FLV file with any media player.

By the way, how did you download the file?

I did a quick web search and there is some speculation on the internet that Hulu video has DRM, but nobody in anything I found seems to know for sure. This would explain why it can't be converted. You may be waiting a long time for something to bust the Hulu DRM, if that is your problem.

I'd be surprised if Hulu didn't have DRM. It's supposed to be some sort of 'joint venture' between NBC Universal and Fox, and I'd doubt they'd let their shows or movies be run on their site without some sort of protection. (That said, I'm willing to admit I could be wrong...)

(Though I'd heard mostly about Hulu in regard to NBC, after the reports they didn't want to distribute their shows through the iTunes store any longer.)

When i go to play an episode of As The World Turns it has the option on the right side of the video, it says 480p.

It looks like Replay Media Catcher does more than just download FLVs.

  16. In installed the free demo of Replay Media Catcher on an XP VM and found that it does indeed "capture" FLV as it is streamed from Hulu.com. The 360p files can be played by any FLV player but the 480p files appear to be a slightly different format (the header starts with the same "FLV" but the other metadata fields are more extensive). It appears that most FLV players don't know how to deal with this new FLV format. You'll have to wait until the players have been updated or a new FLV splitter is available.
