Have got a Compaq EVO N610C with a DVD-ROM DRN 8040B. The problem I am having is when I insert a burnt DVD it triggers WinDVD to open but then the program hangs, and the DVD drive keeps making a repetitive noise, like it starts to search, then stops and starts over again. It won't stop unless I eject the DVD. I have run Gspot on it and it says it should work. I have copied the VOB file from the DVD to my desktop and played it no problem with WinDVD, so I don't think its a codec problem.

    Any help would be appreciated.

From your description, is sounds like a DVDrom reading error. After inserting a disc, cancel the WinDVD startup or simply close WinDVD. Can you read the files on the disc using Windows Explorer or My Computer? If you can, then the DVDrom is working fine and you have a WinDVD issue. If you can't, then you have a DVDrom issue or a bad disc.

Thanks for the quick response. I can read the disc and I even copied the file to my desktop from the disc. I was able to play it with WinDVD when it was on my hard drive, but it it won't play on the DVD ROM. I switched the DVD ROM out and substituted with a DVDRW that I had from another laptop and it plays fine. It seems to be something with that specific DVD ROM and WinDVD. I've never seen anything like this before.

    Thanks
