ok i have been trying to seach around the net for this problem but its hard to find. my drive is a Hp - 840b dvd burning drive. zI have never really cared about this until now.... but ive burned about 150 movies.... and ive use mostly VIO discs. and pretty much almost every disc i have made it glitches out here and there, no biggie cuz the discs were cheap. but now ive upgraded to Verbatim 8x DVD-R discs and it seems my problem is worse. Im not sure if it is the program, the drive or the discs. ive been looking at the underside of most discs i burn.. and about 3/4 to the end i see a ring.... some discs the ring is faint other the ring is very apparent. it seems that my dvd wirter tends to stop recording on the discs once there about 3/4 the way done. the discs that have the faint ring only glitch up a bit once it reaches there but the discs with the larger rings it can take 5 mins for the dvd player on a tv to get back on track and the movie playing. some discs dont get the ring... and some do. i burn with Nero vision 4, at 4x. and all the discs that have the ring, the ring is in the identicle spot on all the discs, so oculd my drive be crapping out in the same spot?? mayby some dusts blocks the laser??? becuase nothing get written... becuase when i got to copy dvd's it wont let me becuase once it reaches that spot there is nothing for the burner to read and the disc fails. ive gone through like 15coasters using my verbatim.... the problem it happening more on the verbtaims than on my VIO's..... but its in the same spot on every disc that has it. HELP!!!!

If you were burning at a faster speed, I would say it was a bad speed change on the part of the burner. But that shouldn't happen at 4X. My guess is your burner needs a firmware update to work properly with those Verbatim discs.
And I wouldn't use Nero for burning DVDs, though it works most times.Try ImgBurn instead. It works all the time and it's freeware.
Another question, have you played back the authored file from the hard drive before you burned it to disc? That would tell you if there was a software problem from a earlier process.
If you rule out cabling or IDE controller problems and if ImgBurn doesn't help and you are using quality Verbatim discs, that pretty much leaves the burner as the problem. If a firmware update doesn't help, then maybe consider replacing the burner. -
im getting the firmware update right now and im going to try that,. i can try img burn and see if that works out better for me. basically with Nero vision is encodes the movies .Avi to Mpeg 2 for me and then burns right after. conections shouldnt be the problem although i can double cehck.

NV can also be problematic at times.
Try checking the finished NV file before burning to see if it plays back properly.
That particular burner doesn't seem to be well rated, so keep that in mind. New burners are fairly cheap at present. -
ok Well just buaght an LG GE20 and seems to burn just fine. ive come to conclusion i had a faulty drive.. becuase i tried using FavC and dvdflick with imgburn and got no luck... right now im using dvdflick for encoding, and it burns with img burn.... shall i stick with this way over nero vision?? thanks

I would favor DVDFlick, ConvertXToDVD or FAVC over NV. But that's just my opinion.
I would definitely recommend ImgBurn for most any DVD burning, especially DL (Dual Layer) discs.
