I'm new here so I've probable chosen the wrong section and my query may have been covered before.

I have an internal dvd (rec.) and an external one.

I have been given a short movie in AVI format.

I've seen loads of ways of converting to another format but I just want to copy it! ....in case of accident I like to have 2!

I have to watch it via GOM Player.

I have PowerDVDCopy and DVDFab5, I put the source disk in drive a) and the blank into b) and visa versa

but neither recognise the avi disk. Is there some software I can download to overcome the problem.

    Am I missing something obvious?

If anyone is going to answer please keep it relatively simple, I'm not a technophobe but.........

Yep you missed something simple - avis are stored on data disks NOT video disks therefore the DVD rippers don't recognise the disk.

To copy your avi - double click on My Computer (I'm assuming you are on some variant of Windoze)
Double click on the drive holding the avi and then right click on it and select copy from the drop down menu
Now open a folder where you'd like to store the avi (either permanent on your HD or temp for burning)
Click Edit on the menu across the top of the window and select paste
After a few seconds/minutes the file will be copied from the Disk to the HD
Now save the disk in a safe place as the backup and only play the copy on the HD
    OR
Use your favourite dsik burning software to create a disk containing the file

    Hope this helps
