  1. I'm breaking cherry on copying Blu-Ray discs. And as expected, I'm running into a snag.

I'm using two LG CP-40 external Blu-Ray drives; one for the source, one for the destinaton. I'm using Memorex and Verbatim blank Blu-Ray discs. I'm doing it on a Lenovo Ideapad V570.

I first tried copying from disc to disc, using DVDFab8. The software would not detect the destination disc.

Yes, there was a blank disc in the drive.

So I downloaded Slysoft AnyDVD HD & ripped the source disc. By the way, it's the 2nd part of the Swedish Dragon
Tattoo/Millenium trilogy, "The Girl Who Played With Fire."

I then installed IMGBurn & followed the instructions for use I found online under the following URL:
    www.wesleytech.com/burn-blu-rays-a-how-to-guide-for-burningbd-r-discs/713/

I added the folder. Check. I clicked through all the prompts the tutorial said I would see. Check. But the software is not detecting destination media. The Burn button is grayed out.

Again, there is a blank disc in the destination drive. Both drives are visible in Computer.

I used both brands of black BD discs in either external drive, including the one which contained the source media. No love - neither of the blank discs are being seen. "Device not ready(medium not present)." And the source drive is functional. I was able to burn a standard DVD with it.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction in this matter? I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks.

Just a guess - the BluRay you ripped is likely big enough to need to be burned to dual layer (BD-R DL) discs. You say nothing about what you have, but I'd make a guess that you only have single layer BD discs and that's a problem. If you want to shrink to single layer BD-R size you'll need to install BDRebuilder.

  3. The content on the source disc is 23GB. The blank destination disc is 25GB - I guess that would be single-layer?

The ripped content came to about 24.5GB. So you're saying I'd still need a dual-layer disc in this instance?

Capacity of a blu ray single layer is 23.3gb. But really depends on how you measure it. http://forums.highdefdigest.com/high-def-disc-faqs/17953-gb-vs-gib-explanation-storage-capacity.html

By the way, is this the drive you have? http://www.cdrlabs.com/Optical-Drives/LG-CP40NG10-Super-Multi-Blue-Slim-Portable-BD-Combo-Drive.html
If so, this is a slim, combo drive that can only read blu ray, not burn them.

  5. Yeah, it is. Wow, my newbie-ness is on full display, isn't it!! Man, I suck. BD-ROM - would have helped if I read the box a little closer! I bought two of them. And I'll be returning them tomorrow. Thanks for the help, fellas!
