anyone know of a solution to outlook throwing a "553 Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts" when trying to send mail. it will get mail from the account ok, but not send. a google search gives a big list of people getting the error but not much in the way of solutions. i had him try the:
set outgoing SMTP setting to "use same settings as my incoming mail server"
and the
outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication and log into incoming mail server before sending email
fixes but still no joy.
this is for a website client of mine and he isn't allowed to use anything but outlook. which is bad because sending mail works fine with thunderbird when i test it from my computer.
thanks for any insight.

Hi I use outlook myself and this is what I found out about the error.
"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '<email address>'. Subject '<Test>', Account: '<Test>', Server: '<smtp.example.com>', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
The exact error message might vary, depending on your Internet service provider (ISP) (ISP: A business that provides access to the Internet for such things as electronic mail, chat rooms, or use of the World Wide Web. Some ISPs are multinational, offering access in many locations, while others are limited to a specific region.). Some ISPs might not return an error message when they detect outgoing messages as unsolicited commercial e-mail. In such cases, your message might appear to be sent normally — it leaves the Outlook Outbox and appears in Sent Items — but it is never actually delivered to the recipient.
** Your message was rejected because the SMTP (outgoing) e-mail server did not recognize you as an authorized user.**
hope this helps -
Could be a password problem, or many other things else.
Even a port problem (port 25 blocked by ISP)
In that case, try changing SMTP port 25 to port 587 - normally it works.
If not, ask hoster, which port is enabled for sending mail.
Good luck ! -
well since i am the hoster, my server is using port 25 and the username is authorized/the password is correct i'm still stuck. sending works with thunderbird, just not with outlook.
thanks for trying to help.... -

But does your client use the same ISP as you ?
If so, forget the port problem. -
no, the client is on road runner cable a thousand miles away. he says he has a clue about setting up email accounts, but i'm starting to wonder.

I cut my teeth on email but this is weird
you're lucky it tells you on the error
there's evidently a list somewhere that needs to get gone
try creating another user profile is all I can think of at the moment -
sounds like a plan. i'll tell him to delete the old profile and start over. maybe he can type straight today. all i can think of is that he must of messed up spelling something last time, though he swears he's checked it a hundred times.....
