I'm looking to get a cheap player that will play homemade VCDs, iDVD discs, and ideally play scratched rental discs with ease. I have a Samsung m101 and s'okay, but it sucks for rentals and refuses to play my VCDs (made w/ Toast 5 on a Mac). I'm thinking of the Apex 1500 and Mintek 2110. If anybody can recommend other makes & models I'd really appreciate it. It'd be a plus too if the player didn't die after 6 months 'cause it was so shoddy. Thanks!

I've been really happy with the Pioneer DV-343, cost $135 from Amazon.com a couple of months ago and the player list here says it's going for $99 now. It plays any of the VCDs and SVCDs I have made on any brand medium. I only make SVCDs now. Loads quick and plays flawlessly. Doesn't have MP3 capaibility but I have the pc for that. I have only two quibbles and they're minor. The remote is small and hard to read in dim light and the hack for making it region free won't work with mine, I guess they changed the firmware. I'm buying another for the bedroom.
