It was supposed to play Divx but says "non supported video format". Is this because of applying region hacks? Is there anything I can do to play divx on this?

Baldrick is of course right. We need more information.
Any of the following Divx encoding options might cause DVD players to have problems.
1) Use of QPel (Quarter Pixel).
2) Use of GMC (Global Motion Compensation).
3) Resolutions greater than 720x576.
4) Files larger than 2 GB in size.
5) Video bit rates higher than 2000 Kbps.
6) If you use AC3, LPCM or DTS audio, the video bit rate may have to be a lot lower than 2000, perhaps as low as 1200 for successful playback.
7) Packed bit stream (MPEG4Modifier can remove this).
All of these problems except #7 require re-encoding the video to remove them. My best guess is that your resolution is greater than 720x576. Almost no DVD players support HD Divx. Region codes are not the cause of your problem. -
I've tried with several avi divix, both on cd and dvd. I'm not very good with all these, but here is what gspot tells me:
Size: 699 MB (716,464 KB / 733,659,136 bytes)
Container
File Length Correct
DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
Interleave: 1 vid frame (40 ms), preload=504
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves
Video: 623 MB (89.17%)
Audio: 66.7 MB (9.54%)
AVI Overhead: 9.05 MB (1.29%)

Seems than problems 1-5 & 7 are not mine, no idea about #6... -
I've tried MPEG4 modifier (saved the file marking "unpack" in "packed bitstream" field), but still '"non supported video format". Any other ideas?
