  1. the source is PAL, 25fps, 720x576, 16:9, captured with handycam on DV tape
im convering it to wmv with WME

in one of the options i can choose between anamorphic 16:9 or dv pal 16:9

since i dont know anything about both, which should be better to use?

I think you just answered to yourself. Just place a pointer over your thread on anamorphic underlined and see what it say.
You should use anamorphic setting, because it will insert letterbox flag on DVD.

  3. well files will be for the web and played mostly on computers, so because of the many different screens they will be played on, i guess that's one more vote to go for anamorphic?

For web use, you likely don't want files at that resolution anyway. At least you typically wouldn't, just because of the file sizes.

And the best way to find what works best for you, is to simply experiment. Simply encode the first couple of minutes at various settings and see what works best.

  5. this is the high quality version of the videos which will be in restricted area, so file size isnt priority here, but quality and usability

so i did some test, seems that anamorphic works better (more visible area) on both my screen (wide and standart)

so i guess im gonna go with that

thank you all for the help!!!
