Just burned a SVCD. Howver, I goofed up on my math and fed it a 480x440 NTSC stream instead of 480x480 as SVCD demands. AND the audio is 48KHz, instead of 44.1 KHz. Nero picked up both deficiencies as it's supposed to. However, I decided to burn the CD any way, just to see what would happen. Surprise to me... the SVCD plays JUST FINE!

However, now I am a little confused as to how to properly keep the aspect ratio. But I'll take that to the authoring / conversion forum...

  2. I still use my 525 to this day. The machine will play virtually almost anything. I had one disc that was like 500 something in size by 400 something. I used nero svcd to burn regardless of any warnings, to my suprise it played it fine and kept the correct apsect ratio.

    Hey there!
I have a old Pioneer DV-525 and was wondering if anyone had ideas to unlock it to play all region DVDs.
    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers!

drunkmonk - Welcome to the forums, but what you did was very very bad. You dug up a post that hadn't had a reply in 2 years (!!!) and added to it. This is called 'gravedigging" and we frown on this. There was no reason for you not to make a new post asking your question. Digging up old posts and adding to them years later is not a good way to make friends. Unless you have some very specific information to add directly to the subject at hand (and asking about a region unlock code really has nothing to do with the subject of the player playing out of spec SVCDs) that was not part of the original thread, we really frown on this kind of activity.

Again, welcome to the forums but in the future please just post a new thread rather than digging up old ones to add to. This place is not like the stupid AVS forums where they want people to add to the same threads until each thread lasts for years and there are multi-hundreds of posts in various threads. We'd really prefer you just start a new thread here rather than dig up an old one unless your post is 100% in line with the original thread and has some new info that would be useful to anyone looking at the specific subject of the thread.

Here is some unlock info that might work for your player

Do note that for all their good features, Pioneer DVD players haven't generally been known for being easy to unlock and in the past many models actually had to have tricky hardware modifications to be unlocked.

Sorry about that. I am not quite familiar with the etiquette's of the forums. I will stop this thread here and post a new one. Thanks for the link to the hacks. I checked these already and they quite didn't work for me.

    Thanks!

    Hey drunkmonk,

Did you ever find a fix?

I have three Pioneer DV-525s and would love to make them able to play Region 2 & 4.
