OK so this is my first post here. I am running into a problem. I am working on editing some video that was given to me by a family member. Problem is that it is in dvd format on a dvd, and I am having trouble ripping it to a file type and compression that can be used in Adobe premier so that I can edit the video down. Please any help would be appreciated.

    cheers,

Try using VOB2MPG and extracting the MPEG video from the VOBs. If Premier accepts that, you can edit, then re-author to a new DVD.

And smallears, in the future please use a more descriptive subject title in your posts to allow others to search for similar topics. I will change yours this time. From our rules:
Try to choose a subject that describes your topic.
Please do not use topic subjects like Help me!!! or Problems.

    And welcome to our forums.

EDIT: Sorry, missed that you were using the Mac OS. Maybe MacTheRipper instead of VOB2MPG. Didn't know Premier ran on a Mac. But I'll move you to the Mac forum where you may get more Mac specific information.

No. See my edit above. I've moved this thread to the Mac forum where you should be able to get more Mac specific answers.

Also some Mac specific tools here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/macos-video-tools

    cheers,

This has been discussed many times before and can be found searching the forum:

Here is a most recent version of these steps:

    1. Rip Main Feature with MTR.
    2. Open the rip with MpegStreamclip, play through to
determine the rip was good, and fix any timecode breaks?
    3. Export out to DV Stream.
    4. Import into Premiere.
