  1. I recently did noise reduction on a PAL mpeg file by demultiplexing it
in TMPEG encoder, editing the mp3 file, then re-multiplexing it in VCD format. I don't know if the original mpeg was mpeg1 vcd format.

I found out quickly that this DVD player is very picky about CDR media,
and found the "Digital Media" discs at Circuit City to be usable.

The problem is, the VCD I made by using VCDgear(turns an MPEG file
into a CDRWin bin file) plays in this Sony player with NO SOUND.

Well, it makes a little screech now and then, but that's not really proper.
    The video looks great.

The DAT file plays fine in Media player, so it's not the VCD that's flawed.

    So the question is:
What's causing the missing sound? It's got to either be
    1. The Sony player cannot play PAL discs properly
    2. When I edited the .mp3 portion of the movie and re-multiplexed it,
the format changed, and is no longer VCD compliant. Bit rate was 224 kb/ps.

I didn't get any errors from TMPEG encoder when I split and re-merged it.
So what gives? Anybody else ever encounter this problem?

  2. I answered my own question by looking at the convert tips on this site:

VCD's use mp2 format for audio, not mp3.
I converted the audio to WAV, and had TMPEG re-encode it to an MPG
with no video. Then I mulitplexed the new audio with the m1v video.

For those having trouble with media for this Sony DVD player, and have not
already found the answer, you must use silver type media, the shinier
the better. The "Digital Media" brand from circuit city worked for me.

    Cheers
