  1. My work laptop won't burn CDs. It goes through the motions and spits out the disc after when it is finished but comes up saying it's blank when I insert it.

Since it's my work computer, I can't even recall if I ever burned disc on it. It is a CD-RW/DVD drive. Any settings to check? The box is checked to enable the drive to burn.

    Thanks!

If it's a company computer, you may not be able to do this, but I would add ImgBurn. It does burn CDs also. And it has a few tools to test the drive. But what burning program is it using presently? Most times with XP, it's some version of Roxio if you are using the OS burning setup. ImgBurn is likely a better choice.

It doesn't sound like the problem, but many laptop drives have the laser lens exposed when the tray is open. It may have a chunk of dirt on it.

  3. It has Record Now installed. I tried Deep Burner but had the same problem. It reads OK. I work in an extremely dusty environment. I've cleaned it as well as I could. I'll try ImgBurn.

    Thanks!

  4. Well, it's still choking. The dust there is insane and I'm sure it fouled things up. It says it burned the disc successfully but just hangs when I try to open it in that or my home computer. Discs burned elsewhere read fine.

Time to get another drive - on the company!
