  2. Do you just want video, and don't care about audio? It doesn't resample audio very well

Video => Frame Rate (enter #)
Press Save (with full path e.g. "myfile.avi")

If you want complete control, use avisynth editing

Could you be more specific about what you are trying to do ?

Both programs have filters of different types. I wouldn't call most of them 'special effects'

  5. No special effects. It's just a simple editor and encoder. You can do things like add filters, resize, cuts, append, adjust color etc...

You need to either use avisynth or a full function editor like premiere to do special effects

  6. where I run into my problem is when I combine the 2 clips. the first avi is of assorted clips combined into 1 avi file w/an mp3 over it and the second is a small clip of a movie w/its original sound. once I append the the first avi(asst clips) to the 2nd(small clip), it speeds up the song on the 2nd avi. does it have to do with the movie, where I got the small clip from, being in audio variable rate?

What is the framerate of the two clips ?

It is possible to slow a clip down by simply playing it back slower, which is fine so long as it plays in isolation. true slow motion is done by shooting many frames at a high framerate, then playing them back at normal speed.

I suspect your second clip is running at a slower framerate than the first clip, however once joined, it must play back at the same speed, and hence becomes faster to compensate.
