I have a sony RDR HXD760 that can play DIVX files.
it plays the AVI File fine however on my widescreen tv i have to set it as a 4:3 display to see the avi in the correct aspect ratio with black bars on all 4 sides of the image. I have experimented with changing the Aspect ratio in the AVI file itself but it doesn't change it. I can convert them to DVD format but i want to leave the file as an AVI. Is there any easy quick program that can fix it up for me? or is there something i am missing on my player? the file is a widescreen image for sure.....
thanks for any help or advice you can give.

What's the actual codec of the AVI? Some players cannot correctly play back XVID or other codecs. You may need to patch the fourcc code to divx from XVID or something. Drop the file into GSPOT and find the exact format of you avi.

What is the resolution frame size of the avi?
Many players will ignore aspect ratio in avi divx/xvid files so you might need to reconvert to square pixels / 1:1 display aspect ratio, like if you want 4:3 the resolution should be 640x480. -

playing on the computer is no problem at all. fills my widescreen monitor fine. On the tv when it is set for 16:9 it stretches the picture horizontally.

Meaning what? 624x352 is 1.77:1, the same as your TV set. If it's a standard 1:1 AVI, and if it plays on the computer fine, it should also look good on the widescreen TV set, filling the entire screen. Are you saying that when played on the TV it's setting black bars above and below? If so, there's something wrong with the player, the TV, or both, or perhaps with the way you've set them up. 624x352 XviD AVIs play just fine on my widescreen TV set.
