  1. Since my old dvd-burner is near to die (see here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic344992.html )

    I have the choice between all of these (P-ATA or S-ATA is not a problem):

    * NEC AD-7170 Sata 18x => 28 €
    * Pioneer DVR112D 18x => 30.00 €
    * Pioneer DVR115DBK PATA => 29.00 €
    * Pioneer DVR212BK 18x Sata => 34.00 €
    * Samsung DVD SH-S183A SATA 18x18x8x6x48x32x => 25 €
    * Samsung DVD Writer SH-S203B 20X SATA => 28 €

    Which one seems to be the best ?

    Thanks.

    I got the Pioneer 115D about a month or so ago and love it. It burns better than my BenQ 1640, NEC 3500 and LG 4167 (all are legendary good burners). Read the recent CDfreaks review here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Pioneer-DVR-115D-DVD-Burner-Review

    I like the Pioneer 112D, it has worked fine without any issues.

    I highly recommend the Samsung SH-203B.

    VERY interesting. My beloved 4167B is getting a bit on the noisy side.
    Still burns perfectly - might be a physical "installation" problem...but
    I've been eyeing a new Pioneer just in case the old girl bites it.

    The one thing I will sorely miss is the ability to read the correct
    capacity of oversized CD media (800MB - 90min) like the LG's do.
    But at least Pioneer clearly says in their specs that they will NOT do it...at least they are honest
    and professional enough to spell that out for us.

    My suggestion for a SATA drive would be the SAMSUNG S203B but beware of the compatiblity issues with motherboards that have different controller chipsets. If you have a motherboard with the INTEL chipset controllers such as IHC7/8/9 the SATA drive should work correctly. If you have a NVIDIA chipset controller download the latest from their website to ensure the SATA drive will work. VIA chipset controllers will not work therefore you'll have to buy a SATA PCI CONTROLLER card for a SATA drive. Also the motherboard bios has to be set to DISABLE RAID and set SATA to IDE. Just because your motherboard has many SATA ports doesn't mean a SATA dvd burner will work correctly. Especially older motherboards that have SATA ports that were mainly made for only hard drives not optical drives. For a PATA drive get the PIONEER 115 drive which I've read burns DL media very well and SL media too. Just my 2 cents!

    To get the latest drivers would be from the NVIDIA website not GIGABYTE.

    I just/finally killed my latest 100 pack spindle of T02....not a single coaster
    out of the 100. I've been using these 8x TY silver tops for much longer
    but my previous batches were also burned on my old 4040B...so I couldn't
    claim any kind of "record" like the 100 - No Coasters milestone.
    My latest 100 were burned exclusively on the 4167B.

    I would recommend either the Pio 112/115/212/215 or the Optiarc 7203A/S.

    I got a Pioneer 115D. My discs of choice being TYG02's, it's great.

    These were burned at 12X and scanned in my Benq.

    Do note that without some unofficial FW updates it will not booktype +R SL, it does DL though.

    For all you Benq lovers there is the new Lite-on, it's dirt cheap.
