    Hi all,
I have been making DVD's from dvb-t sticks and by capturing on my stand alone dvd recorders and hardware capture devices for some time, but this one has me stumped.
I recently bought a nikkai A12HY (Asuka PME380) portable 3.5" dvb-t portable TV. It has the facility to record to flash card.
The files would appear to be DVB-t streams but encapsulated in a avi container.

I would like to convert them to MPEG2 for writing to DVD.
Womble will convert but 100% transcodes
Video redo wont open them (even when renamed) gives the avi's not supported error.
Vdub and Vdub mod will open them but you cant save to mpg
I tried projectx (which I am unfamiliar with so I may have the settings wrong), it had a go, the resulting m2v file plays but is mangled (looks a bit like a weak signal - a 15min file produces more than 500 errors).
VLC says it cant find the mpg2 codec though it happily plays every other mpeg stream Ive thrown at it...
dr divx 2.0 will happily make divx files from the original files

I would also Like to make files to play on this, it reports to be mp4,xvid,divx,vob,mpg,dat compatable, yet will only display files with avi extension, have tried divx, xvid, renamed mpegs, vobs etc but have only managed to crash the TV with anything except what it has recorded.

It has as far as I know the latest firmware (boot 1.04.019 Application 2.0.08.2)

    Any one got any ideas?

    many thanks
    J

PS I also just bought their usb PVR (PVR which records to an external usb hard drive), should be fun if this is anything to go by...

    Hi,
Something strange going off here, Some one posted a suggestion, now its gone...
anyway, thank you to that user that suggested i used the following to create files to play on the device and convert to mpeg files recorded on the device.
The files generated for play back work ok (except no sound) untill its remuxed with virtual dub then they are fine

mencoder c:\yourfile.mpg -of avi -oac copy -ovc copy -o c:\yourfile.avi
    and
mencoder c:\yourfile.AVI -ovc avi copy -oac copy -of mpeg -o c:\yourfile.mpg

It has got me part way there, The reason I didn't post was that it still wasn't working properly, lots of buffer under runs and pts errors and wanted to see if I could get further before posting.

I improved it using the following example
mencoder c:\yourfile.AVI -ovc copy -oac copy -of mpeg -ni -noskip -mpegoptsformat=mpeg2:tsaf:vbitrate=8000:vframerate =25:vwidth=544:vheight=576 -o c:\yourfile.mpg

which on the most part has got rid of many of the above errors but by no means all, am I missing something?

Would anyone be kind enough to take a look at these strange AVI's and tell me if i an wasting my time, most seem to play back ok on the recorder (though many don't - am only trying to convert good ones)

    many thanks
    Jay
