Recently my Sony DVD+-RW-Q58A stopped playing DVDs properly. Whenever I insert a NORMAL DVD the sound jumps and the picture does as well, however, burned DVDs still work just fine. I do a LOT of burning on this drive, and use ImageBurn, DVD Shrink, and DVDFab HD Decrypter (for more recent DVDs.) I'm not sure what prompted the problem, it just started out of nowhere. Any help on the subject is much appreciated.

  3. It could be scratches or fingerprints on the disc that is preventing normal playback? Have you looked at the disc to make sure that the bottom is clean and free of scratches?
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

    I use Dell Media Experience.
Even DVD's that are brand new (free of scratches and fingerprints) won't play. It's really odd that it will play all my burned DVDs but not any regular ones. I am just stumped here.

Have you changed the region coding of the drive? Just a thought, but your burned discs are likely region free.

SO, I got it and thought I would pass on the word..
Since my last post I realized that I could still burn dvds but at turtle speed.(still not watch regular ones) Then with some advice from another website, I checked my IDE channels and found that my secondary IDE channel was on PIO instead of DMA mode. I unistalled it and then rebooted and wabam!! it worked! Back to DMA mode and burning at regular speeds again

I'm glad you got it fixed, and you would have gotten the same advice here if we had known of the other symptoms.
