I bought a used Dell GX260 it came with just a DVD player I have tryed 6 different CD writers of different brands in it but none will write. I have tryed different brands of cd-r's and get the error E:\is not accessible incorret function with all of them.
I can play cds (music, games programs) with all of them but can't use them it write with. I have also downloaded burner programs and tryed them still won't work.
Has anyone else had this problem and can you help with this.

I've just finished looking around on the Dell website/forum for a possible remedy. One post stated that the CD drive would not burn because the back panel jumper was set to cable select. After changing the jumper to master, the drive worked. Just wondering if this could be the problem with your burner.

I don't know if this will help you or not and it is so basic, but it worked for my computer. I bought a used dell GX260 off of ebay that included a CDW/DVDR. I checked it out and it played cds fine. Thought all was well. After the "warranty" ran out finally got around to trying to burn an audio cd. Wouldn't work no matter what. Took the drive out and installed a Sony CDR that I had. Worked like a champ! Bad drive I figured. Well here it is about a month later and thought I would check on driver/firmware updates. Updated and still no joy. Was pulling it out of the computer and about to install the Sony back in when I noticed that the jumper on the back was set to: cable select. Hmmm I thought, wonder if that would make any difference? Well, I set it to master, put it back in and guess what? As I am typing this, I am listening to music that I successfully burned! Nothing else was on the ide cable, just this burner alone, and it was installed at the end of the cable as before. Check it and change it, it might work. Just trying to help. This was on Windows XP-Pro though.

This is a seperate function, and sounds as thou the cable connecting the unit is not completely working 100%

I have only seen this in the past, but these turned out to be bad ide connecting cable, try again after replacing it.

    ----

40pin ide cable can swapped around (universal) , an 80pin cable (higher transfer rates) cannot.

I thought the same thing about the jumper and the ide cable I had tryed them both before I posted. I know that all 6 drifferent CDW that I have tryed all work I put them in another system their fine. This is driving me nuts.
I checked mircosoft and couldn't get anywhere with them I do have XP Pro on all my system.
Thanks guys for your in put
