SSMM Equivalent Program

I have been trying to use Slide Show Movie Maker to make mpg stills with audio for a VCD menu system. I used it only once then it stopped working completely. I'm fed up with the program. I was wondering then, if there was another program that could do it for me. I just need a MPG with a still and audio that comes in a couple seconds after the still loads that I can use in VCDEasy to use as a simple menu system. This is what SSMM was supposed to do for me and I got it to work once but I messed up the music intro offset and then I couldn't get the program to run properly again. So, I was wondering if there was another program to do this for me... perhaps one a bit faster and more reliable!?

Maybe DVD slideshow GUI if it can make mpeg1 then.

Thanks. I tried the program you suggested, however I can't seem to find a way to control the default effects the program places on music and slides it uses.
