As rumors still spread on the internet about Toshiba is going to
stop making players and just sell there remaining ones.

I tried to call Toshiba HD DVD Support, but they were closed because
of weekened. I will call them on Monday.

If these rumors are true and after all the money I have invested
in my Player and Many movies, I will Never buy any Toshiba product
    again.

And I suggest you do the same..............

    Thank You.

depends on what you paid...I paid $99 for mine....and I get HD DVD movies from ebay for LOW prices...so I am happy. For example, got Apollo 13 for $7, Shrek for $11, etc. Firesale is great for me. Soon I will get LG HD BR combo for PC and rip my movies....then eventually burn to BR.

If you get a good price great...if not, then I can see why you may be angry.

  3. Sorry for your loss. It's not Toshiba's fault. They make great products. Let the buyer beware I always say. I'm out over 30k on a authoring tool I didn't manage to pay off yet...hope that makes you feel somewhat better.

There's always a danger of buying obsolete equipment when you enter into a "format War". You had a 50/50 chance of being wrong. It's not Toshiba's fault HD failed,it's consumers who picked Blue-Ray.
What is surprising is that the cheaper format lost. VHS won over Beta because of lower cost and recording length.

  5. Sony learned from that experience -- so they bribed all the content providers this time.

I'm the same as you, I got mine for $99 with 5 free (that I am still waiting for ) and buy HD DVDs on ebay for the price of regular DVDs and cheaper. The Toshiba is still a great upconverter so I am still happy with my deal, though of course I wish HD DVD had won the war. I will still get years of use for $99 and will pick up HD titles if the prices come down as I think they will. Meanwhile, I'll check ebay for a used LG BH100 combo HD/BD player. I've seen some go for around $300 and they can't be more that a year old.

I wonder how many months before HDCP is tuned on for new BluRay discs. Wait for the consumer revolt on that one. There should be a general boycott of all HDCP discs.

Yep not to mention the region coding on BD.
I have owned 4 DVD players from Toshiba(not to mention a laptop) and all of them are high quality,I will continue to purchase Toshiba products as long as they offer features I want at a good price.

They will understand about HDCP when they buy a new BluRay DVD and it won't play unless you have an authenticated HDMI connection. Retailers deserve every return. If they try to charge restocking fees, that is grounds for legal action or worse.

That's what I was thinking, but it sounds awfully difficult from what I have seen in the forums. Then again, how long did it take to cracjk the latest copy protection? Minutes? Someone will figure it out...[/code]

Yeah, I think when you first buy HD-DVD or Blue-Ray you should prepare for this outcome. I think most ppl think it will end up like DVD+/- a draw and almost any manufacturers offered them both.

I personally will never buy this HD yet, until I heard press release from Toshiba itself. I might buy PS3 for my son later this year (still waiting the price to come down again). Not for its blu ray, but just because it has game machine and I can browse internet on my LCD TV. I view the blu ray player as a bonus.

  13. I would think that once BluRay is firmly entrenched as the definitive HD format, then Toshiba will start producing BluRay players also. Just as Sony eventually gave in and starting making VHS players, so too, Toshiba will eventually make BluRay players.

Disclaimer: I am not a BluRay fanboy. The only HD player I have is the X360 HD-DVD player and I do not plan to buy any other HD player anytime soon.

Actually Toshiba should make combo HD-DVD and blu ray for a while for the sake of its customers. Otherwise ppl with extensive HD-DVD library will be lft out cold when their player dies.

Note that Monday is a holiday in the USA, although many businesses, mine included, do not observe it. Toshiba technical support in the USA may be closed unless they have outsourced it to India.

I bought the AD-30 in early January and if Toshiba does leave the business, it's still a good upsampling DVD player. My money was not wasted. If Toshiba had only allowed it to support PAL video and other formats (ie. VCD and SVCD) it could have been a really great player instead of a good one with limitations.

It's rumored they already have two BD players in development.

    Hi,

I don't think Blue Ray would have come even close to winning if not
    for the Playstation 3.......

He he he, it used to be porn that win the war, and then PS3. IMHO, capacity is one of specification that can't be overlook in storage business.

And yes I also think PS3 is a factor (blu ray incl as opposed to XBOX HD-DVD add on).

Now looking forward for that hologram disc to become cheap to store all my media. :P

    I beg to differ.

Its the studios that chose the winning format.

I call BS on this one. How many more Blu-Ray players are out there than HD-DVD players? Yet Blu-Ray was only outselling 2:1?

Would Toshiba make HD DVD technology a GPL ? Having a 20gig burner in my PC provide a decent backup.

  21. To me, just do not get involved into their war and die like one of them, eventually.
