As of late I have been using the file conversion website known as zamzar, particularly in converting flv to avi, but recently it has been experiencing problems converting videos, both from the direct conversion from URL and also when I have downloaded the flv file elsewhere and have uploaded it from my hard drive to convert, and I thought this was a one off problem, since it converted another video, but the problem has arisen twice now (6 times or more I have encountered a conversion problem downloading the first video). I have also used Total Video Converter to do this, but when I have tried to play the converted file, a notice has come up saying 'class not registered'. These problems are seriously too much to handle, so if anyone could provide any advice on the matter it would be most appreciated.

Find a different website - many around and google is your friend - or use better software. AlltoAVI can convert these for you, as can Quick Media Converter and SUPER. If you use SUPER you may need to install FFDShow depending on how the flv was encoded.

Can I therefore assume that its a problem at zamzar's end. I tried converting another video just a few moments ago and I instantly got an e-mail saying file conversion problem. It is really annoying because I have found online converters to have been far more reliable than downloadable ones, as they have for some reason only converted a percentage of the file rather than the whole thing.

I'm finding more & more of the FLASH video online is NOT FLV its swf extension

there is a difference, try changing the ext, before you upload

you may have saved it with the wrong ext

I use super most of the time for converting these files,

EDIT: the program i use to convert swf to video is 'video to swf' from bytescout software

you can Dl a 45 day full function trial from their website
