Is there a setting in capturing software for aspect ratio? I captured some DV into an avi file using my dvd studio. I have used this program many times capturing 4:3 footage. This time it is widescreen. Where would this setting have been changed? Camera? I couldnt find any setting on the software.

If you mean DV over IEEE-1394, wide is determined in the camcorder before the video is shot. Some cheaper camcorders output letterbox but most output full height, horizontally compressed wide format with a normal transfer if the video was shot wide.

Your editing project needs to be set to wide or the imported wide video will revert to letterbox on the timeline.

The resolution is the same for 4:3 and 16:9 DV footage and it is not uncommon for there to be no A/R flag in the avi (or for editing software to ignore it if there is). Just go ahead edit and make sure you select 16:9 A/R when you encode and it should play back fine.
