sounds like you have downloaded the trial for dvdfab platinum not dvdfab decrypter hd as the latter is a cut down version and does not transcode anything.

I agree. The free version only RIPs discs, it can't/doesn't perform any other function with the data.

  4. Notice that when it is 100% the rip starts with no problems. When dvd fab tells you that you are above its limits (for a dvd9 disc) it takes more time and analyses your disc before ripping. It is doing that because it does a quick transcode while it is ripping to get your disc in it's 8000mb size limit

I am using the free version (DVDFab HD Decrypter 4055) and the backup disc I was working with was death sentence (reg 1).

the free version will not allow you to shrink a disc down to a dvd5. But when a disc is over its dvd9 size for ripping this is what it tends to do

I might not have been clear, it is not shrinking down a disc say dvd9 to dvd5, but it is shrinking down a dvd9 to what it's limit of a dvd9 should be. This is why I made the post with the reg fix

  5. you guys might have been right about something.

a long time ago I was curious about the platinum and tried out the trial. I stuck with the free version instead because A: I use dvd shrink and do not want to transcode a dvd in while it is in my dvd rom drive and B: I have dvdremakepro to take care of everything else

at any rate it seems some of the reg info was still left over from platinum and this merged with the free edition (whatever version that was that the time, I am sure it was 4 something) which was also on the pc.

I have a few reg cleaners but decided to delete all keys, unistall ver 4055, restart and re-install. The keys that I mentioned in the top post are not here now. So it seems that whatever was left over from the platinum version has fully been erased and now everything is working with this clean reinstall of the free edition
