I have a DVD Video Recorder that I am using to transfer old home VHS movies to DVD's for safe keeping. I can not play back the DVD's on my old DVD player. I can on the new DVD Video Recorder I just bought. Any help on why or should I use another kind of disc?

  2. That sounds like a failure to "finalize" the disk in the new recorder. This does not happen automatically because you can add to the disk as long as it is not finalized, but if you are done with it, then it must be done to make it compatible with other players.

It sound like possible compatibility issue to me. I have an older Toshiba player that plays -R but not +R unless +R media recorded with book type set to DVD-ROM. Additionally that Toshiba would play no LiteOn 5005 recordings except +R media burned with DVD-ROM book type.

I agree with it sounding more like a "finalize" issue.

Some older players don't like recordable discs. Try playing them in a newer machine and see what happens.
