  1. Hi Guys,
I am new with DVD authoring and I am trying to transfer 28 video files to DVD. But TMPGEnc will only show 24 of the files on the menus. I have tried having all 28 files in 1 track, and also tried breaking it down in 2 and even 3 tracks. It won't work, the maximum is always 24.

Is there a solution for this? Or will I have to start all over again with another authoring program?

    Thanks so much,

There are limits to the number of buttons allowed on each menu page, and it changes depending on the format. You get 36 per 4:3 page, 18 per 16:9 page, and 12 if it is a 4:3 letterbox menu. These limits are built into the DVD spec, however different authoring tools may have lower limits for their own reasons.

If you are using text buttons there is a solution for making additional buttons on a page (TDA2/3), but it needs 'post-authoring' in DVDRemake. So are you trying to avoid making an extra menu page or just think the other buttons won't be created?

  4. Thanks for trying to help.
I don't care how many pages or menus it creates, the thing is that it's pretty much ignoring 4 of the 28 files.
No matter if I do 1 thumbnail per ppage, or 4 per page.
It just doesn't let me have more than 24. It's not 24 in one page, 24 total.

Did you get any kind of error message when adding these 4 to TDA?

  6. Hi,
no, no error. Pretty much I have all 28 clips in the source step, but when I go to the menu step only 24 clips are there.
So I thought it could be a limit of chapters per track, so I even tried creating a new track and moving half of the files to the other track, I even tried 3 tracks, but no matter what it would only include 24 chapters. I can't find anywhere if this is a limitation of the software, or any DVD authoring software. I don't know.

Some of us have never bothered to even use it.

  10. I see. I thought it was very popular for DVD authoring. It does seem very straight forward for adding files, cutting files, creating menus, etc..

What other program would you suggest? I need one that works with AVI files.

    Thanks

Yes- you can have more than 24 items in the menu, but only 24 on one page of the menu. If there are 28 items then you should have a 2nd page in the menu with items 25-28.

In the menu editor (on the Page Editor section for TMPGEnc version 3), look at the 'Edit Menu' button at the bottom of the box. There should be a set of double arrows to the right and left of that button. Those buttons take you forward and backward to the next/previous menu page.

  12. BobK, thanks for trying to help. I am not trying to get more than 24 items in one page of the menu. I actually have tried having several pages. I even tried having 2 separate tracks with half of the files in each. No matter what, It would never add all 28 items to the DVD menus, even in multiple pages.

Do you know when you go to that option Global Settings and it let's you pick what clips you want to add? So, right there, the extra files are missing. What ever number above 24 files are missing there.

So, on SOURCE screen they are all there, than when I go to MENU screen, only 24 clips are carried. No matter how many menu pages I add. I was actually using the option 4 chapters per page. It would never have more than 6 pages, 6 times 4 = 24.

    Does it make sense?

    Thanks

Sorry but I am one of those many people who use multiple programs for different parts. Mainly a combination of Avisynth, Virtualdub, HCenc, FFmpeggui, and Dvd-Lab Pro 2. I really do not think that is the answer your looking for.

Maybe there's a problem with some of the clips. Pick one of the clips that is showing in the menu (so you know that clip isn't a problem). Then start a new project and try adding that same clip 28 times and see if it shows up in the menu all 28 times. If it doesn't then there's a problem with TMPGEnc- you might try to reinstall the program and see if that helps.

Try starting over with the menu. Launch the Menu Wizard, select a custom menu, then for the track menu select the #32 (I hadn't realized that version 3 would allow 32 items per page). Then see if you get all 28 items in the menu.

  15. BobK, thanks again.
So, I think I figured out. It is not a limit of 24, what was happening is that some clips just don't show if they get in and out marked.

I think it's a bug in the software. Let's say, of the 28 clips I want to use, there are about 4 of them, that if I edit marking in and out, it won't show in the menus. If I go back and set in and out back to the beginning and end of the clip, then it shows.

It sucks, but I guess it's just not a great software.

I'd have to disagree with that. It may not be great software for professional applications, but for most of us it's one of the best.

Not really a bug in the software either. The solution is simple- when you sent a new beginning (in marker), just add a new chapter marker at that point. (Another alternative would be to set the end marker where you want to start and then click the delete button. The program will then automatically add a chapter at the new beginning of the clip. Then you set a new end marker wherever you want it.)

From what I know, TMPGenc allow up to 99 chapters per session.

I have some DVD-Rs, with 4 - 5 movies on them, each of them with 99 chapters. (from former VCDs)
