[Vegas 6] The Oddball Event and Missing Stills

I have a veg file that has several stills in the beginning surrounding a short avi file, which is about 15 seconds. After the last still is a 40 minute avi file. If I delete the long avi file, a 39 second audio segment from the long avi file mysteriously appears in the first 39 seconds of the time line.

If I listen to the 39 sec audio segment it is from the last 39 seconds of the 40 minute avi file I deleted. It takes a bit of work to get this errant segment deleted. However, my interest is why it appeared anyway? A possibility is that the stills after the 14 sec avi are missing. The reason is that I deleted them from their folder. When opening the veg file, I'm warned of this, but check ignore. In a way, ignore doesn't seem to be sufficient. If I save the veg file, and then re-open it, the warning persists. This may or may not be related to the mystery audio segment. Comments?

Is there a way to get rid of the "missing event" message when I initially open the file? The first time it happened, I knew what the problem was. I had deliberately deleted them from the folder. I believe there were icons on the timeline denoting their absence. I deleted those, and saved the veg file. The 'missing event" just doesn't go away. Maybe I need to direct the message to a new folder where they now reside. If that works, then I can delete them from the time line. I really have no need for these specific stills for the veg.

Another possibility is that VirtualDub left the errant segment around. The 40 min avi consists for 4 glued together avi files.

I'm not terribly concerned about this mystery event predicament, since I can get the 39 sec file out, and get the 40 min avi back in the veg file. I had knocked out the 40 min avi to make a test DVD of the prior short part of the time line. It left me wondering what would lay ahead for me in continuing to populate the veg file with new events if the mystery isn't cleared up.

It's still troubling though that I cannot get around the "missing event" message in the manner I initially tired (ignore and save, rather than point to a still file then save after deleting the still event from the time line).

You may be able to correct this by using the "Clean Project Media" item under the Tools menu. I'm using Vegas 7, so I'm not sure if version 6 supports this.

Thanks. That worked quite well. The difficulties are gone with the stills.

The mystery audio event problem is still there. It would be good to know what's happening, but I can work around it. I can clear out all the events preceding the 40 minute avi, then delete the avi. The mystery event still remains. I can't even isolate the event from the avi. That may be because I'm not yet savvy about doing such things.

I just created a new veg and put that avi in it, then saved it. After closing it, I opened it. The delete left no events. I guess there's some audio event fragment tucked under the problematic veg that I just can't see.
