I am not sure if i am posting this in the right forum, but i think it should go here.

I have a problem and i hope someone here can help me out.

The thing is that whenever i cut a scene out from a (music)dvd using virtualdubmod the audio is out of sync. Only a few seconds, it is like a small glitch.

I have tried to convert the audio to wmv, but this doesnt help. I dont get an error report when opening the video in virtualdubmod either.
I have tried using YAAI to delay the audio. But it only helps for the first few seconds..

Is there another way (for a newbie which isnt too difficult) to fix this problem?

Are you making your cuts on keyframes? Otherwise you may have sync problems. (Use the 'key' icon to jump to keyframes.)

And do you mean WAV instead of WMV for the audio?

If you add a audio offset and the file still gradually goes out of sync, the problem more likely is the audio and video lengths don't match. A offset just corrects the start time of the audio. BTW, VDM can apply audio offsets also.

Thankyou for anwering my question! It drives me mad that i cant do this properly, argh! So your help is much appreciated!!

And do you mean WAV instead of WMV for the audio?
yes of course. Just a typo

i never used the key frames icon, i just moved the 'cutter' to where i wanted to using the mouse. I'll try using they key icon to see if that is ok. But i have a lot of videos with audio off sync. do yo have any tips on an easy way to fix this problem?

What also sucks, is hat when i burn it to dvd with nero the audio is way off all though it is ok when i watch the video on my computer (music videos).

VDM can apply audio offsets also
i dont know what that means..

    Thanks again for helping out!

  4. If VirtualDubMod gives you a message about improper VBR audio and asks if you want to rewrite the header when you open the file answer "no".

If you find the clips have a constant audio sync error (for example, off by 1 second all the way through) you can use the audio skew option to advance or delay the audio. Streams -> Stream List, right click on stream select Interleaving. In the Audio Skew Correction section enter the amount of advance or delay in milliseconds. For example, to delay the audio by 1 second enter 1000.

If you find the audio sync changes during the video, for example, if it starts out in sync but after 1 minute is 1 second behind, after 2 minutes it's 2 seconds behind, etc., then you have to either change the frame rate or export the audio, change it's length, the import it back into VirtualDubMod.

redwudz, your tip about using key frames was probably the reason why things were out of sync. I have used the key frame icon on videos i have cut after you told me & i haven't had any sync problems since.

jagabo, if the audio ever gets out of sync i will try to do what you said!

    Thank you both for helping

    However:
I have come across another problem involving nero. Whenever i burn music videos they go out of sync. They are ok when i watch them on my computer but it is like nero screws them up..
Should i change program to something else, or is this fixable? I have version 7, using nero start smart..

With Nero, you never know. If you are using Nero to encode and author them, then it may be causing the problem. It does fairly well with just burning. Are these music videos going to DVD format from MPEG format and you are using Nero to create the Video_TS folder and burn it to disc?

If so, I would try a different authoring program, maybe the freeware GUI for dvdauthor. Or the trial version of TMPGEnc DVD Author. I would still recommend ImgBurn to burn the disc, though.
