Just captured 28:19min. with Vdub and got 12 drops with PicVideo MJPEG set to 20 is that right?

That's not unreasonable, especially if you are capturing tape or broadcast. The frame drops may even be VirtualDub compensating for timing inconsistencies to maintain a/v sync.

try avi_io i used to drop frames out my ass on virtualdub and pic video so i changed to avi_io and pic video can now capture 100 min movie with only 2 frame drops or drop your quality setting on pic video to 18-19 you may pick up a couple of frames worth a try and at 18 -19 the quality is still there
