All three are out of date programs that won't be updated. But Shrink will work with many DVD backups by itself. If you add a newer decrypter like DVDFab HD Decrypter you should be set for the newer DVDs. I would also use ImgBurn instead of DVD Decrypter to burn as it is updated for newer burners.
There are some pay programs that may do this also, but the ones above are all freeware. -
I think DVD Shrink is still an excellent program for compressing a DVD to fit on one side of a DVD disk. However, its copy-protection defeating capabilities are not up-to-date.
I have AnyDVD running, which will defeat the copy-protection in real-time as the disk is read. This makes DVD Shrink think that the disk is unprotected, and therefore makes no attempt to defeat the copy protection. Using them both in combination is a very good way to back up movies, and does not require running each program separately, in sequence. Just run AnyDVD all the time in the background and when you insert a disk, DVD Shrink will think it's just a regular, non-copy-protected disk and will be able to shrink it to one disk with no problems.
AnyDVD is not free, but it is kept up-to-date via frequent updates. -
you guys are awesome thanks so much ill try both and see what happens.

Greetings,
As Redwudz said those 3 programs are no longer being updated but that does not mean that they are not fine programs to use. Ripit4Me is a frontend program that uses DVDDecrypter to rip the dvd and then clean it up. There are very few DVD's out there in which that combo cannot currently handle. I would disable the autoupdate features for these in the settings menu.
I prefer to use Ripit4Me along with DVDDecrypter to rip a disc with. Then I will use DVDShrink to rip out the movie only and to get rid of the extra soundtracks and other extras that I do not want. They just eat up disc space, my main goal is to watch the movie. If the movie is small enough to fit onto a dvd I have Shrink creat an ISO and burn it with ImgBurn (great burner program spawned from dvddecrypter). If it is too large then I save as a folder and use HCEnc w/ DVD-RB to encode it to fit and ImgBurn it.
Yes, a single program may be able to do all of these processes for you but you give up alot of control in creating your backup dvd. The problem is they do not always make the best choices for you automatically and can leave you with a lesser quality disc then if you took the little bit of extra time to do the stages yourself. Once you have the steps down it is a cakewalk and after awhile you don't really mind doing it. Think of them as tools in your tool box. A tool that is designed to do one job very well will perfom that work better then a tool designed to do everything. A Swiss Army knife may be great utility-wise but it is not going to be able to get the lug nuts off the wheel of your car very well. ;-]
Cheers,

As everyone else already stated, all good way's to backup dvd's.
I regularly use DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip, DVD Shrink to transcode, & ImgBurn to... well... burn 8)
I have turned on a few friends that were not as versed in all this with DVDFab Platinum, as it is an easy one button push backup tool, will rip/decrypt, compress/transcode & burn back to dvdr and delete the temp files all in one shot.
Although it is not free where as most other multi-step methods are. -
