Converting mkv to vob-chinese dvd player

HI EVERYONE....I HAVE BEEN USING THREADS FROM THIS SITE FOR SOMETIME NOW AND I MUST SAY THEY ARE REALLY GR8 AND VERY HELPFUL BUT THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD AND I KNOW U WOULD HELP ME OUT.
I HAVE A BULK OF MKV MOVIES THAT WON'T PLAY ON MY CHINESE DVD PLAYER BECAUSE IT ONLY PLAYS VOB FILES, SOMETIMES MPEG2 VISUAL (XVID) FILES AND RARELY PLAYS AVI(DIVX) FILES. I HAVE TRIED DEMUXING THE VIDEOS INTO VIDEO AND AUDIO STREAMS AND THEN MUXING INTO A SINGLE AVI FILE USING AVIMUX(GUI), MKVTOOL, MKVCLEAVER BUT THESE VIDEOS DO NOT PLAY. WHAT HAS WORKED SO FAR IS CONVERTING THEM USING VSO CONVERTXTODVD. MY PROBLEM WITH VSO IS THAT IT CONVERTS THE VIDEOS WITHOUT THE SUBTITLES. I HAVE DEMUXED THE VOB FILES AFTER I MERGED THE SPILTED VOB FILES AND MERGED VOB FILE ALSO PLAYS ON THE DVD. WHAT I NEED IS A MUXER THAT CAN MUX M2V AC3 STREAMS AND MY SRT(SUBTITLE) WITHOUT ENCODING THEM OR A TOOL TO CONVERT MKV TO VOB KEEPING THE QUALITY OF THE MKV FILE

Ok so you have the SRT files. External subtitle files, yes?
Put it in the same folder or directory as your video file. It MUST have the same name as the video file.
Leave the SRT extension as it is.
Now convertx should 'see' the subtitle file and include it.
Not sure, but you could try dragging both the video file and the sub file into convertx.

sorry for the caps man. Convertx loads up the externak subtitles but when i play the video using my dvd the subtitles do not show up and when i use vlc media player, i have to click on video-subtitle track-track o1 before the subtitles are shown. Vsoconvertxtodvd divides the video into two segments. VTS_01_1 and VTS_01_2. am able to merge these files into one vob/mpg file and demux it but i have not found any software that can mux m2v, ac3 and srt with re-encoding

Then if ConvertX doesn't work to your satisfaction, use a different program. Maybe try AVStoDVD,

Can i use avctodvd to mux the m2v, ac3 and srt files. or convert the mkv to vob keeping the resolution?

You say 'it rarely plays AVI files.' By that I imagine it does play some. Have you used MediaInfo to check the details of the files it will play? Perhaps you could convert using those properties. Xvid4PSP has a good subtitle option.

Also if it plays only DVD format, then any conversion above DVD specs probably wont play. If your original MKV is HD it may need converting to SD. Xvid4PSP can merge the vob files Convertx produces and you can add the subs with it. It seems a very intolerant player. Would it not be easier to buy a cheap HD media player?

when i try to merge the vob files using xvidpsp i get this error loadfilebject reference not set to an object.
when i open the vob file and add subtitles, thee subs do not show up during playback. i also get this error
The input file must be an elementary stream not a program stream. is it possible to add srt to vob files or to mux srt, m2v and ac3 without re-encoding or re-encode at a faster rate? For now i rip the video_ts using Format factory to mpeg2(dvd ntsc large) with the subs.
it plays some avi files and i used mediainfo to check their properties the video stream is mpeg4 visual(xvid) and ac3. All avi's from torrent sites play flawlessly

Why reencode at a faster rate? What's that mean? Anyway, yes, some authoring programs accept SRT subs as input. Because they're not in a DVD format, they have to be converted in the process to something else. Here's how I would suggest you do it.

First, convert the SRT subs to SUP format using SubtitleCreator. File->Open Subtitle (browse to the SRT) followed by File->Save SUP. Worry about the colors later. They can be 'fixed' in either PGCEdit or DVDSubEdit. If you want to position them or set the colors, then suit yourself.

Then open Muxman. Load Video (the M2V). Load Audio (the AC3). Load Subtitle (the SUP). If it's for a 16:9 video load the SUP twice, for both Wide and for LB. What are you going to do about chapters? If you want them, they have to be in frame number format and are loaded in File->Import Chapter. Give it a Destination Folder and then 'Start'. Play the resulting DVD with PowerDVD or MPC-HC or some other software DVD player afterwards to check and make sure the subs made it in and that they look OK. Fix the colors. If you have any problems, ask. Doing it this way nothing gets reencoded, not audio, not video.

There is something wrong here. ConvertX accepts .srt files quite readily. The only problem I've ever heard of ConvertX NOT accepting them is if there is corruption in the .srt file. I know from experience that Xvid4PSP accepts .srt files, I've used them myself.

Try finding a new source for your subs.

i think i have figured it out. i demuxed the audio, video and subs streams using mkvcleaver which also converts h.264 to avi. then i convert the aac audio to mp3 and use virtualdub to mux the avi and mp3. for the subs i use AVIAddXSub to mux the srt into the avi file. it works flawlessly!!!!!
