  1. Hi,

I'm new here. I did try to find post similar to this one but I couldn't find it.

I made dvd of my new born baby with titles. I put that titles on bottom edge of screen. Everything was OK on pc. When I play it on TV I can't see everything (I mean titles on edges are missing). So I put that DVD on pc to check what I did wrong. PC played it normally.

What can I do now? I don't have anymore that video tape, I just have that dvd .
Is there any way that I can do some kind of dvd shrink that allows me to see everything normally on TV as well not just on pc montor?

    Thanx

What you have found is what is called overscan that all televisions do. Have a look at the glossary for a full explanation.

You will need to reduce the size of the image and put black borders around it. The size you choose is up to you as no two television sets overscan by the same amount. Hopefully somebody else will answer you question as it is not something I have ever done. My software has markers to show overscan safe areas and I never put anything important in those areas.

Try changing the title of this thread to adding borders or something like that, shrinking means something completely different on here.

Your editing software should have title and action safe area markers (never seen them referred to as overscan safe area markers, although that is what they are). Unfortunately you will have to resize your video, add borders, re-encode and lose a generation of quality. A hard way to learn a lesson - never delete your masters until you have tested and are sure everything is working.

  4. Or make any text as selectable subtitles so if you screw up, it can be fixed without reencoding the entire video.
