Is there a way to import video from a copyrighted DVD into a Mac for use in Final Cut Pro. I would like to make some tribute videos and need to know if I can do this.
THANKS!

You would have to rip them first, to remove the protection. MacThe Ripper should be able to do this. Read my blog here.

Once ripped, run the .vob files through MpegStreamclip
(make sure you also bought the QT MPeg-2 component,...oh wait,
it should have come legit with your copy of FCP), and then
convert these to .DV Stream files.

Once done, import those .DV Stream files into FCP."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

Technically if you only want the video, you dont with FCP Studio. It will have to be converted, however, to whatever output format you desire. So yes, you have to throw away a generation -- but it wont make it worse if you convert to a format like Pixlet or Uncompressed.

A general tip - most of the time when a tool is mentioned in a post, the name of that tool becomes a link to it's page in our Tool's section. There you will find links to download it, links to guides, and user comments on the program itself.

Try clicking on the name in my post (above).

Another thoughtful feature from our host, Baldrick.Read my blog here.
