    Here is my problem:
I have videos that I make myself that i'd like to add a logo or text (like you see on television stations).
All my videos are in .avi format, and I'd like to keep them that way.
I've tried Adobe After Effects, Final Cut, doing it through Quicktime, but they all don't give me an option to input the .avi, overlay my logo, and quickly export or render them to an .avi again.
Does anyone know a simple way of doing this?
I know there are tons of programs for Windows which allow you to do this, but are there none for Mac?
    Thank you.

All editors allow for overlays or they wouldn't be editors now, would they?
Look again with whatever you're using

They all allow for overlays, but once I overlay on an .avi, most will only export to a .mov format, not allowing me to simply render or export quickly back to an .avi.

that's because you have changed the file.
The file is now something new, and you will need to export to
    the proper file type.

If I was doing this say, in quicktime, I would export out as a reference
.mov file, there by referencing my original avi and my logo graphic,
and then I would drag and drop this into VisualHub to make a divx .avi.

In FCP, similar thing, but instead of a reference .mov, I would just export to
a Quicktime .mov file, then drag/drop into VisualHub.

This is normal behavior for the apps you mentioned...

Thanks terryj, that's what I thought.
I just am trying not to have to go through the work of encoding my work, overlaying the logo, then encoding it again.

Unfortunately, with any type of editor, that is what you'll get.
