I decided on the P35 chipset for my new system.
I need a good board that doesnt have too many items I dont need.
I will not use 2 graphic cards and no OC]
I am mostly debating between Abit and Asus and

Do I need the Deluxe P5K model [like in the ASUS case]
or the P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard is OK,
Or maybe just The plain P5K ???

Just my 2 cents since I have those two mobo's down below.
    IMHO ASUS has gone downhill.

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard, $96.99

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard, $131.99

  3. I agree. I have the predecessor to the DS3L, the S3L, and it's a solid but inexpensive board (and it overclocks very well, although you specifically said you weren't interested in that). In my opinion also, Gigabyte is on top of the motherboard world these days.

I suggest Intel boards. Asus was always my second choice.

    Budz, is that Gigabyte VIA-free?

  5. Well the P5K works well and takes DDR2. I used it with a Q6600 for a customer with a PCIe 7300Gs video card and all was well. He actually didn't need that good a card for video playback and editing and conversion, however he wanted 256Mb so...........

The Q6600 ran cool to the touch idling.

Part of your choice has to do with what types of drives you need to support.

    - Support Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-core CPU
    - Intel LGA775 Platform
    - Intel® P35 chipset
    - Dual-channel DDR2 1066/800/667 MHz
    - Heat Pipe
    - 2x1394
    - 12xUSB 2.0
    - All High-quality Conductive Polymer Capacitors
ESATA for high speed external drive.

Asus also has a power supply calculator on their website:

The one thing I don't like about Intel Mobos is if you buy a desktop board they supply no server OS drivers as they want you to buy a server board for a server OS. For a small network that could be overkill.

I'll throw in my recommendation. I've had 2 of these running perfectly since September -

Yup, LS it sure is. This series of GIGABYTE motherboards are great w/lots of features. The only thing is make sure you use the recommended memory that is on GIGABYTE's website.
