hi
i am going to buy a new home cinema set, including Sony DAV-DZ230 all in one kit with standard DVD playback and Sony VPLAW10 projector.
As i have found out, this setup can upscale standard dvds to 720p resolution, using hdmi interface. What i want to ask is, whether the upscale is still possible if the dvds are backed up using dvdshrink, since hdmi cabling incorporates copy protection (HDCP).
Does hdcp refer only to HD media (HDDVD and blu ray) or to any DVD?
thank you in advance
Jim

If it will upscale commercial DVD's, then you shouldn't have any problems. Backed up discs often have the region coding removed, but that won't affect if the disc can be upscaled.
HDCP is protection for HD content. For info on HDCP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCPGoogle is your Friend
