    Hello,

    Here's my dilema:

I have a 16mm reel of a 70's music band. The color reel is a original lab element right from the lab. There is no audio, only the footage. The music track is the matching lab element on another separate reel. I will be playing the 16mm film with a special telecine projector made for projecting film with no flicker so i can record the picture right off the screen with a digital camcorder and right onto my hard drive. No problem.

Then i will play the audio reel on the projector with audio out from the projector into a special z-box that will allow the signal output from the projector to be downloaded onto my hard drive as well. No problem.

What i need from the guru's on this site to do for me is to tell me from this point on what i will have to do to sync the audio with the footage so the music matches their actions etc., and to then burn to a dvd so i have a performance by the band! What software? Can someone please take over once the footage and audio is on my pc and walk me thru getting a dvd out of this project that is in sync? Thanks in advance.

    Rick

I'm intrigued about this audio reel. It actually has sprocket holes to play through a cine projector ?

OK. Assuming that you have the video and audio saved on the PC - they would have to be recorded at the same playback speed BTW - you first need a video editor such as Ulead Media Studio (free trial available) where you can lay down separate video and audio tracks. You can then sync them by gradually moving one in the time-line until you are satisfied.

Create a dvd-compliant MPEG (look at the presets in the program) from the footage which will combine the audio with the video.

From there any dvd authoring program will do depending on how sophistiscated you want the final dvd to be (Media Studio has a basic one).

    Good luck

Adobe Premiere, Vegas, Final Cur Pro (if Mac), or Womble MPEG Video Wizard (if MPEG source file).

The scrub the video and watch how it sync to the audio, adjust as needed. You might have to cut and re-splice the audio at several points.

  4. Sony Vegas works well for this. I do it all the time.

-set "preserve pitch" in audio preferences
-adjust the audio length to match video length
-in approx middle of the video, set a "marker" for a familiar sound event
-find the audio position and cut the audio track at that point
-stretch the audio cut point to match the marker
-then adjust start and end points in the same manner.

Why try to learn the art and invest in equipment for one reel?

Take it to a competent film to tape house.
    e.g. http://www.monacosf.com/

Can't afford them? Negotiate or use your effort to find someone cheaper.
