Hi all... of the following three, which ones are worth the money? DVDFab Platinum? AnyDVD? or DVD Rebuilder with CCE Basic? Thanks!

DVD Rebuilder won't rip the disc for you, however it is certainly good value for money when you can get results on par with CCE using HCEnc (which is free). Use DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip your disc to your HDD for processing, and you have a completely free, high quality solution.

I very much agree with gunslingers statement. I use the exact same method often getting spectacular results...with freeware!

If you really want to spend money you might look at dvdrebuilder pro as it offers some extra features not included in the free version. Although the free version suites my needs just fine.

Thanks for the replies! I have noticed the DVD Rebuilder takes quite a bit of time when using HCEnc. I don't mind waiting though.

Only CCE would be faster, however it depends which version of HCEnc they are using. I suspect the still ship with 0.21, which doesn't recognise/utilise multi-core CPS. The newest release, 0.22, does recognise and use multi-core CPUs, and this does make a difference. Multi-core utilisation is not as high as I would like to see, averaging around 60 - 65 % per core, but if you have the hardware, it does produce benefits. I have retrofitted HCEnc 0.22 into both FAVC and DVD RB and it seems to work happily.

NO: DVDRB Pro is never fast. I still say it's the best $15 that I ever spent (I got in early LOL). I do typically use ProCoder for most rebuilds.

I prefer to use it on any disc requiring under 75% encoding.

Above that: I still use DVD Shrink when possible, DVD2ONE on the hard ones.

As I've taken to ripping in "movie only mode" on most DVDs, I tend to have to resort to DVD RB Pro only on episodic or HUGH DVDs.

ok, this is kind of a follow up question... how do I upgrade HCEnc in my DVD-RB page? Also, do I need to update Avisynth as well? Thanks again for all of your replies.

Download HCEnc and expand the archive to an empty folder. Find the HCenc folder under the Encoders folder in the DVD RB installation folder (probably c:\program files\DVD Rebuilder\ . . . , but it depends when you installed it). Note the name of the HCenc files. Rename the new HCEnc files to match, then copy them over the old ones. You might want to make a back up of the old ones first, just in case.

ok, got the updated HCEnc to work with Rebuilder... definately faster than before! I had to reinstall AviSynth for some reason but it works. The time was cut in half if not more. Thanks for the tips!
