  1. A friend of mine has just bought a Philips DVP5960 And it works great for the most part. Only when it comes to xvid files of 1.4 gig (joined 2 700MB files) it cuts the movie of near the end. I asked him if it cuts of at a specific time but he hasn't had time to check it yet but thinks they cut of at different times (maybe around the 2 hour mark). There are no problems with long movies that were't joint. I've checked the files with Gspot but no GMC or QPEL. Only PVOP and BVOP. Does this mean the player can't handle 1.4 gig files?
The movies are burnt on a DVD.

What tool are you joining with?
Have you tried any xvid files that are 1.4 gb or above that aren't joined?

Also, have the files been verified on a PC? (ie: they play from start to finish without any issues).

Are they burned onto DVD as data or have they been converted to DVD format? You should just be burning them as data.

  4. I used AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.7 to join the movies (he borrows the movies from me). Oh and he told me that when he fast forwards at the point where it cuts off, it does show picture, but when he stops it moves on to the next file/movie.
Haven't tried any movies of 1.4gig or above that i didn't join. Biggest movie was 900MB and that one worked fine.
I haven't watched the whole movies on my computer but i did check the first and last scenes to see if the subs I added were in sync. Oh after typing this, might it be because of the subs?
The movies are burned as data on a dvd-r discs.
I have played the movies on my LG DV8700H though and they run perfectly fine on that one. Since the DVP5960 is much newer and everyone was saying it has really good compatibility i assumed it was much better!?
So I take it this isn't a common problem with the dvp5960?
