  4. Well, since your question wasn't very clear, neither was my answer. For example, I could easily say, in answer to your second question, that I choose the language using the audio button of my remote control, or the language menu. Is that what you meant? If so, it's absurdly simple.

You've provided no information at all about your process or even what you mean by choosing the audio. Do you mean that when backing up a DVD with several audio tracks you want to know how to remove any language tracks you don't want? If so, it depends on your process. Do you use DVD Shrink, DVD-Rebuilder, do it manually, what? Please explain a bit better than you have so far.

    Allright:
I have mkv movie file which has two audio streams: english and japanese.
I want to burn that movie file to a dvd ( I normally use Ulead Dvd Moviefactory 5 ). Normally mkv files have to be converted and I can do that, to japanese with english subs or just english language.

Can I burn that movie file to a dvd with two audio tracks ( english and japanese ) so that I can choose an audio stream when the dvd is burned and I play it on my dvd player?
I don't want to burn the english version ánd the japanese version which makes to movies...

I hope the question is more clear now.

You need two things to happen...if the languages are "one language left - one language right"...I think you are pretty much screwed(without adding another process or two....or three).
IF after converting and authoring that file to DVD standards, the languages are normal/selectable ones like on a normal DVD....if the movie has no menu....you will need to find an "audio" button on your DVD player's remote.

So, I have to convert the mkv to avi with selectable audio?
And what do you mean by left and right language?

Some asian films have one language in the left channel, and a second language in the right. To make two separate audio tracks form this you need to demux the audio track, then make a copy of it.Call one English, and the other Japanese, for example. Open the file you called English, work out which channel holds the English audio, and copy this over the other channel, replacing it. You know have a two channel, mono, English track. Save it. Open the file you called Japanese and repeat the process, this time selecting the track that contains the Japanese audio. Save it. Author with a tool that allows for multiple audio tracks.

No...you need to convert it to DVD standard in order to burn it to a DVD and watch it as a DVD on your player. During this process you will most likely find out if you have different languages on left and right.

I would demux the video and audio tracks using MKVExtract. If you have two audio tracks, then life will be easier. If you have only one, then you will have to follow the process I outlined above.

If you have two, you can use mkvmerge to put one back, then add the second as a separate audio track during conversion (DVD Flick should allow you to select a second track. FAVC ceratinly does).

I have only seen this done for VCDs in Hong Kong - they'll have the original film language or Mandarin on one channel and Cantonese on the other channel. This is not done for any other format but VCD, but I suppose some lazy person could make an MKV this way. Given that one soundtrack is Japanese and the other is English, we can safely conclude that the source file is NOT a Hong Kong VCD. The original poster is VERY confused, but I think we can all stop worrying about this possibility and safely conclude that the original poster has an MKV file with 2 separate audio soundtracks.

Many DVD authoring programs allow multiple soundtracks in different languages and these can be selected via remote control on your DVD player. It's not necessary to have a menu to do this - you can usually just press the "Language" button on your remote control to change languages. Scenarist will support this. DVD Lab Pro and TMPGenc DVD Author do too I think. There are probably other DVD authoring programs that will allow this as well.
