I am trying to convert an AVI to DVD. The DVD conversion has worked, but the audio is about 1-2 seconds out of sync with the video. Anybody else run into this??

Sync problems are extremely common (do a search on this forum for proof). Many causes, few fixes.

If the source file has errors (very common if the original source was analog, such as from a broadcast medium or VHS tape), you'll need to fix those errors to perform a "real" fix.

Another possibility is to try transcoding using the "decode with QT" option, if you haven't already tried that. QT sometimes maintains sync somewhat better.

Absent that, here are some alternatives:

If the sync error is a simple offset (i.e., the error is a fixed amount of time), then use something like vlc to determine the offset, and then remux your stream to compensate.

If the error drifts at a constant rate, then you can use a tool such as Audacity to lengthen or shorten the audio track to compensate.

If the error jumps, you can slice up your clip into pieces within which the errors are constant, fix each separately and splice the fixed segments back together (yes, this is a pain).
