I tried combining and authoring DVD extracted audio with CD extracted audio with poor results. Does anyone know how to make the 2 audio samples compliant with each other and to the DVD format?

How did you do it now? and what do you mean by poor results? crappy sound quality or?

I would use an audio editor like goldwave and probably normalize both and then convert it to ac3 with aften.

Don't forget to resample the CD sourced audio to 48kHz (it is originally 44.1kHz). If you use both in the same title (track), also encode it to format in which your DVD audio was extracted. Only then use for authoring.
