  1. I won't bother filling this post, instead, I'll just provide the URL to my story about Best Buy and how they screwed me over three weeks...

  2. I am NOT advising you do this, but just thinking about it might make you feel better.

I have used this line in two seperate, similar situations, and it has never failed.

"Bob, I expect this problem to be solved by first thing tomorrow morning. If it is not, I know where your office is and I will be there immediately. I will bring a hammer. I am going to break things, I am going to hurt people. Get it done." Delivered in a cold, rational, firm tone.

This could land you in deep trouble, both times I have used it the company was either in violation of the law and facing a hefty fine, or their conduct would be very embarassing to them if made public. Both cases involved an ongoing problem lasting nearly 6 months, one was resolved in less than 5 minutes and the other problem never ocurred again.

Best Buy employees are largely idiots, you have to be prepared for that. Pricing is among the best locally available, though, that's why I go there.

Precisely the reason I went as well. I actually spent quite a bit of time with Myer Emco and probably should've gone with them in the end, but it came down to the shipping/unpacking costing $80 vs. $300, and picking it up myself was not an option (have to rent a truck, carry up three flights of narrow stairs, etc).

But this experience was downright awful, and I'm still ashamed for not having left on day1. The problem was entirely in the ordering of the stand.

Just thought I'd pass along my story. Its going to hopefully be read by someone at corporate HQ.

I found a successful way to deal with Best Buy every time. If I can't touch it, buy it, and walk out with it I don't deal with it.

Now if you think your horror story is bad look around for some of the people who bought their HDTVs from online resellers. I had one friend who became so obsessed with the poor service and excuses he was getting from the place that his wife almost left him over it.

I w/rallynavvie since I've heard too many horror stories about BEST BUY.

To the OP: It seems you have a lot of patience. If I had that sort of experience w/BEST BUY I'd tell them to shove the HDTV up their ********. That's just bad customer service/bad business practices period. No wonder a few years ago there was a class action suit filed against them by 12 US states. Customer service is important to me as well as trying to get a good price on a electronic item. But if the customer service is shitty I'll go to another store to make my purchase even if the cost is a little more.

I agree and I'd add a bunch of other stores where I'd only do the same thing.

The blog the guy set up with his horror story with his online TV purchase is no longer up. He essentially went on to Google or some other pricing search engine and looked at several different discount resellers instead of sticking with a known performer, like NewEgg. He found others with similar stories about other no-name resellers.

I bought my home theater equipment from Best Buy, but I went in there with a briefcase of cash and knew what I wanted was there for me to walk out with. I even got the last of my model which was on display so I was able to look over it and see that there were no dead pixels. It's also one of the only things I've purchased a BB protection plan on only because I know if it ever does need to be replaced I'll be getting a larger one (they've discontinued mine).
